#2: Gleneagles – SightseeingSusie

The Gleneagles Hotel is based in Perthshire, Scotland. We travelled from Edinburgh and it took just over an hour to get there.

The first thing that hits you when you arrive at Gleneagles is that this is like no other place you have been before. Gleneagles is a luxurious, stylish hotel that feels like it is in the middle of nowhere, whilst being only half an hour away from Perth & Stirling.

We arrived to the hotel and checked in to one of their newly-refurbished bedrooms, which was located just above the main entrance to the hotel so we had a stunning view of the driveway leading up to the hotel.IMG_20170725_135547_451_resizedIMG_20170725_135416_017_resized

The room decor was stunning – modern, but also in keeping with the history of the building which I thought was great. The bathroom was compact, but had a massive power shower which was brilliant. We were slightly disappointed that there wasn’t a bath, but the shower made up for it and I think you can upgrade to other bedrooms if a bath is a necessity!

After we had settled into our bedroom, we checked out the spa facilities which were great. I didn’t take any pictures to respect everyone’s privacy, but they have a fantastic outdoor jacuzzi, and they also have an ‘adults only’ part of the spa with a pool, jacuzzi and sauna which we really appreciated. It allowed the families that were there to be able to enjoy their time, but also for couples like us to chill out and have a relaxing time.

For dinner, we decided to venture out to a nearby village called Auchterarder. There was not much to do there, but we had read on TripAdvisor that they had a small number of really good restaurants. We decided to check out Max & Ben’s Bistro, which had a selection of burgers / steaks / etc. We both had burgers and they were amazing! The prices were really reasonable and we both enjoyed the meal thoroughly!

The next day, after a relaxing night’s sleep, we hit the breakfast buffet which was OUT OF THIS WORLD. There was everything you could ever have dreamed of, including a pancake station with a dedicated station, I, of course, had more than enough to eat and it was one of the best hotel breakfasts I have ever experienced.

After we had fuelled ourselves up for the day, we decided to explore the grounds of Gleneagles. There is so much to do, from their famous golf courses, to horseriding. These activities are at an additional charge, but nevertheless we got to see a lot without paying anything else.

We were really lucky with the weather and we went on a walk which was recommended to us by the concierge in the sunshine. The grounds are beautiful and it is a place where you can really switch off from the outside world.

After our walk, we went for a soft drink in the golf clubhouse. Be warned – this is not a place to go if you are on a budget, but to us it was worth every penny to have a chilled drink in a lovely setting before heading back to our room to get everything together before leaving.

We really enjoyed our time at Gleneagles, & would definitely recommend to anyone who has the opportunity to go.
