Gil Hanse (2004)

The Boston Golf Club, in the southern suburb of Hingham, is a modern pine valley, built by architect Gil Hanse and his team from a spectacular coastal topography with pristine sand furrows. Fairways sweep down the landscape by posing blind plans that are embraced and not criticized. A section surrounds an old open-pit mine, with mining remains embedded as mounds of chocolate. A sand vein is a one-third-acre hazard. Like the Garden City Golf Club # 51, Boston ends with a stunning par 3.

"You simply do not see this type of variety on a recent, modern layout. It's a good return to a more traditional old course, in the image of Sand Hills, Friar's Head or Bandon courses. I like the many routing options given on most holes. Requires a lot of thought. "

"It reminds me of Tobacco Road in blind places. In some courses you might be frustrated, but you can understand the architectural ingenuity that has characterized these places in Boston G.C.

"The Boston Golf Club is a little antidote to Old Sandwich. It may not be longer, but it is certainly more difficult and if you like your golf on the odd side, you will love it. "

"The dust has been moved and the natural features are incorporated beautifully. I liked cross-bunkering, which we do not see on many new-age courses. "

"The club has a discreet elegance: it has the feeling that it has been around for years without being pretentious or exclusionary. It's a really nice ride. I just wish the rough holes are more spread out during the round and not all of them between the beginning and the middle. "
