Jordan Spieth has entered the championship of players in the hope of returning his 2019 season.

He will have to play well Friday to avoid being cut.

Spieth scored a double 76 in the first round on Thursday, which earned him a tie of 130 and 11 more than the pace set by leaders Tommy Fleetwood and Keegan Bradley.

The round was a microcosm of Spieth's season, with horrific training, failures on easy putts and a languid look of frustration on the part of a guy who was trying to figure it out. Spieth has not finished higher than the 35th in a PGA Tour event this season and has not won on tour since the 2017 Open Championship.

"If it's a mini-doldrums, you usually just have to check a checklist of what you're doing and see where the problem is," Adam Scott said recently. Spieth's marasmus. of Golf Digest. "Do not panic, because most of the time it's not that difficult, the main doldrums are different, you have to be willing to drill deeply, get to the bottom of you, undress as a player and As a person, sometimes when you do this, you will find things you really do not want to find. The game can be so difficult mentally, which is why it can be difficult to get out of a major crisis. "

Spieth dipped to 25th in the world ranking of golf and seemed to be a much worse player than the world No. 25 this season. Barring a strong second round, Spieth will miss his third cup of the 2019 season; his last top-10 entered the 2018 Open Championship, more than seven months ago.

Playing in one of the last groups of the day, Spieth just missed a birdie at No. 1, then fell completely out of the map to his first nine places. He lost the normal five seconds after a bad pass in the trees, doubled the normal fifth after having to take a penalty after hitting his approach in the dirt road, then made the turn to 40 after bogeys back to back. The rear-nine was even more lucky, as Spieth managed to bring back the 10 and 11 draws to two for the day. Nos. 14 and 16 were abandoned by Spieth two hours from the end of the day towards the last departure, still below the demarcation line, but within a reasonable distance.

Then things fell again.

Spieth sent his shot into the water, then crashed into the rough, forcing him to try to get on and off for a bogey – a putt that he had missed by about two feet. He scored his second double of the round and entered the club with only six players scoring worse.

Spieth concluded that the day had only reached 35.7% of its fairways, just over half of its regularized greens and an almost total loss of the green by the shots of the PGA Tour. It will take a big day Friday to have a chance to win the weekend.
