Patriot League – 2018 Women’s Golf Championship Begins Saturday at Naval Academy Golf Club

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The 2018 Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship begins on Saturday at the par-72, 6,085-yard U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md. Navy will host the six-team field that includes Boston University, Bucknell, Holy Cross, Lehigh and defending champion Richmond.
TOURNAMENT DETAILS AND LIVE SCORING: The two-day, 54-hole event will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning with the teams playing 36 holes on the first day. Play will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday. For live scoring CLICK HERE.
Each of the six participating teams is limited to six golfers, with the top-four scorers in each round counting toward the team score. The final team score will be determined by totaling all completed rounds. Individual scoring consists of the lowest aggregate score of all completed rounds.
TEAM CHAMPION EARNS AUTOMATIC BID TO NCAA REGIONALS: The Patriot League Champion will receive the League’s automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals. NCAA Regionals will be held from May 7-9 at four regional sites around the country. In the five previous seasons of the Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship, four different programs have claimed the League’s automatic bid, with Richmond becoming the first school to earn back-to-back titles in 2017.

INDIVIDUAL HONORS: The Patriot League individual champion will be named the Patriot League Golfer of the Year, while the highest-placing freshman will receive the Rookie of the Year. Head coaches from all six competing schools will vote on Patriot League Coach of the Year.
The individual title will go to a new competitor with the graduation of three-time Patriot League Women’s Golf Champion Adela Cejnarova of Boston University. Cejnarova is now an assistant coach to 2014 Patriot League Coach of the Year Bruce Chalas, with the Terriers.
RETURNING ALL-PATRIOT LEAGUE SELECTIONS IN THE 2018 FIELD: A new champion is guaranteed to be crowned for the first time since 2014, with the graduation of Boston University’s Cejnarova. Though eight All-Patriot League selections from the 2017 championship return, including Boston University senior Phyllis Tang (2nd-place) and junior Megan Carter (T-3rd), Bucknell senior Lindsay Dodovich (9th), Lehigh junior Reagan Jahn (8th) and Richmond’s junior Isabella Rusher (T-3rd), junior Sophie DiPetrillo (6th), senior Marie Donnici (7th) and junior Annie Collom (10th). The 2017 co-rookies of the year Lehigh’s Minuette Laessig and Holy Cross’s Jackie Gonzalez will also be part of the talented field.
A RETURN TO ANNAPOLIS: This will be the second time in the six-year history of the Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship that it will be hosted at the Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md. The championship was previously hosted by Navy in 2015, when the Terriers won the team title and Cejnarova earned her first of three individual crowns.
