PGA Championship: Ready for the weekend

No Comments on PGA Championship: Ready for the weekend

Rain on Friday afternoon threw the PGA Championship into a bit of disarray, with 77 players unable to finish their second rounds. But once the clouds lifted and Saturday dawned, the field closed out the second round and prepped for the weekend proper. Let’s run down where we stand at the halfway mark of the season’s last major.

What will the rain delay do to the tournament?

In order to get this tournament finished on time, the PGA has decided to group the field into threes and split starts between hole 1 and hole 10. The third round was scheduled to start up a half hour after the second one ended, so approximately 11:30 a.m. local time, with sunset scheduled for about 8 p.m. local time.

Who’s at the top of the leaderboard?

Gary Woodland continues to lead this tournament at -10, even though it seems like he finished his second round three weeks ago. Teeing off alongside him in the final grouping will be Kevin Kisnerwho’s led on the final day of two of the last four majors and yet hasn’t brought home either, and Brooks Koepkawho’s won two straight U.S. Opens. Also in the mix: Rickie FowlerDustin Johnson and Charl Schwartzelall of whom are no more than three strokes off the lead.” data-reactid=”17″>Gary Woodland continues to lead this tournament at -10, even though it seems like he finished his second round three weeks ago. Who went home early?

Sergio Garcia missed the cut by a stroke, as did Bryson Dechambeauwho did no favors to his Ryder Cup odds by ejecting with an ugly three-bogeys-in-six-holes finish. Major winners Henrik Stenson, Jason Dufner and Patrick Reed bailed out too, and Phil Mickelson carded an ugly and uninspiring +4 card. Bubba Watson doubled him, finishing +8, 18 strokes off the lead in just two days. Will weather be a factor later?

Current forecasts don’t show any trouble for the rest of the weekend, so we ought to be good to get this in by Sunday night. Who’ll hoist the monstrous Wanamaker Trophy then? Hang with Yahoo Sports and find out.
