Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak (2006)

Seventeen years ago, mining company officers John Raese and Bob Gwynne began building a golf course on a newly acquired piece of forest. Their business will end up, in one hundred years, producing high quality limestone. Using company engineers and construction equipment, as well as the advice of veteran tour professionals Johnny Pott and Dow Finsterwald, they created Pikewood National for almost a decade. A natural waterfall has become the backdrop of their fifth par-3 hole and the pivot of their course, which plays along the cliffs, the forest above the rapids and, on the eighth hook-shaped, the eight around, by a ravine.

"Each hole has been treated with the utmost attention by the designers for the first time, Bob Gwyne and John Raese.Every hole has been adapted to the terrain and is beautiful. The sight lines are well thought out and the trees cut down for the mountains Surroundings, a lot of attention to detail, really impressive. "

"You'll just have a hard time finding a course in better condition, fairways and greens that are firm, fast and slippery, that are firm and receptive to well-timed approach shots, and putts that roll real. these are close to perfect conditions as you will see. "

"They tried to model it after Oakmont but without the bunkers, and in fact, the lack of bunkers is refreshing because the rear tees (7,600) are more than enough. elite in mind, only walking with the stairs up to the next tee, and a stern test. "

"A real golf course brute, even the front tees are 6,900 yards!" The lack of tees for women or seniors is a shame, but it was designed for the most elite amateur players. "
