Rory McIlroy finds himself once again in the weekend rounds of a PGA tournament after shooting seven under 65 in the second round on Friday in the second round to grab the championship lead 2019 TPC Sawgrass players in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
McIlroy, who has not won in 2019 despite five straight wins in the top 10, is 12 holes under 36 holes, which is good for a tie with Tommy Fleetwood for first place.
He scored an eagle, six birdies and a bogey in the second round.
McIlroy's day started badly, as he shot his first tee shot in the right hole en route to a bogey. In the end, he would not give up another shot the rest of the day.
It was another 29-year-old north-Irish "tee-to-green" clinic, which found 78.6 percent of fairways and 88.9 percent of regulated greens.

After missing the players cup last year, McIlroy is enjoying the return of the tournament to his March place in the calendar after his transfer in May 2007.
"You have all these great lines and in May it gets firm, you get a bad bounce here," he says. told reporters after the first round. "With the [over-seeded rough] and how lush the grass is, even if you plant it in these banks, it does not go too far, so you can be a little more aggressive. "
He managed to send only one boguey in two rounds while playing a more aggressive style.
McIlroy is now focusing on his best golf this weekend. He has been knocking on the door since the beginning of the season, but mistakes on Saturday and Sunday have prevented him from winning his first victory since the Arnold Palmer Invitation in March.
The drought could end in players if his game of the next two days matches the first two.
