Roundup UNLV: Trent, Rauch paces the men's golf team in Hawaii


Sophomore Jack Trent and freshman David Rauch both played 72 to equalize at UNLV for 12th place after a round of the John Burns Inter-University Golf Tournament at 8 pm on Thursday in Lihue, Hawaii.

The Rebels were 2-290, 10 behind Brigham Young, in a tight pack at the 43rd. BYU junior Peter Kuest was tied in the lead with Washington State junior Daniel Kolar with a score of under 66. Trent and Rauch were tied for 31st out of 114 players.

Also for the Rebels, junior Justin Kim and rookie Marco Trstenjak tied for 42nd place with a score of 1 at 73, and senior Harry Hall was tied for 57th at 2 out of 74.

BYU was less than 280, followed by Texas A & M (281), Arizona State (282), Saint Mary's (284), Duke (285) and New Mexico (287) in the top six.

North Carolina and UC Santa Barbara tied for seventh in 288, while Arizona, Grand Canyon and Fresno State were ninth at 289.


In Minneapolis, Carissa Armijo was second in the 500 freestyle and fellow freshman Montse Moreno was second in the 3-meter dive for the Rebels, who finished eighth at the halfway mark of the 10 Mountain West teams.

Armijo finished in 4 minutes, 46.90 seconds and Moreno scored 361.20 points. Also for the UNLV, the second year, Caitlyn Schreiber, was eighth in the 50 freestyle in 23.0 seconds.

UNR leads the team standings with 530.5 points, followed by San Diego State (528), Boise State (485), New Mexico (316), Fresno State ( 311.5), the State of Colorado (251.5), Wyoming (241.5) and UNLV (213.5). ), San Jose State (186.5) and Air Force (176).


In Albuquerque, MN, Stella Clemens was ranked fifth in the Rebels' pentathlon, tied for seventh after the first day of three Mountain West Indoor Championships from three days to eleven.

Clemens had 3,681 points in his event in five disciplines. She placed first in the shot put with a personal throw of 43 feet 5.25 inches and took sixth place in the 800 meters (2 minutes 29.29 seconds) and seventh place in the high jump (5 feet 3.25 inches).

Kara Smith, Alexis Surrell, Yamilet Biggers and Emma Wahlenmaier placed 12th in the distance relay in 12: 31.02.

Utah State is at the top of the team standings with 17 points, with Colorado State and Fresno State tied for second with 11 points each. Next are Boise State (10), San Diego State (eight), New Mexico State (eight), UNLV (four), UNR (four) and Wyoming (three). Neither the state of San Jose nor the air force scored points on Thursday.


Bailey Thomas, second-degree guard, was voted the second Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII team, the first Lady Rebel to win top honors in all districts since Brittany Halberg 2008-09.

Centennial product, Thomas is listed three times on the Dean's list, with a major in accounting, with an average of 3.96.

Thomas is in her first season with the Lady Rebels after being transferred from West Virginia to UNLV in the summer of 2017. She debuted with the Lady Rebels on December 6th and has since begun .

Thomas's 25 flights rank third in the team. His defensive play helped UNLV to rank second in the Mountain West in terms of defense percentage.
