PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Vincennes golfer Adam Schenk recorded a 2-over par 73 in his final round at the PGA’s Valspar Championship on Sunday.
The 73 put Schenk at 3-over for the tournament, and he finished in a tie for 59th place. He earned $14,170 and dropped five spots to 128th in the FedEx Cup Standings. The top 125 golfers at the end of the regular season retain their PGA cards for next season.
Paul Casey won the tournament at 10-under, with Patrick Reed and Tiger Woods tying for second at 9-under. Corey Conners, who was the leader through each of the first three rounds, tumbled down the leaderboard with a final-round 77, and he finished in a tie for 16th at 3-under.
Schenk opened his fourth round with a bogey and followed it up with a birdie at No. 2. Following a par at the third, Schenk settled for bogeys at the fourth and fifth before a par at No. 6. He closed out the front nine with three straight pars.
The South Knox graduate took his par streak to five before he birdied No. 12. A birdie at No. 14 was sandwiched between bogeys at the 13th and 15th, and a double-bogey at No. 16 dropped Schenk to 3-over for the round. He finished at 73 thanks to a birdie at No. 18.
The PGA Tour continues on Thursday with the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Fla.
North Knox 8th boys runners-up
PETERSBURG — North Knox’s eighth-grade boys finished 4-1 in the Charger Shootout IBA tournament this weekend.
The Warriors downed Southridge, 36-35; Vincennes, 33-32; Evansville North, 50-37; and North Harrison, 47-36, before losing in the championship game to Vincennes, 49-47.
Scoring for North Knox were Ian Kixmiller with 37 points, Rhett Sheren 36, Brody Wolfe 30, Holtman Doades 29, Will Sloan 19, Tyson Flickinger 18 and Gunner Thompson 15.
8th Lady Alices win at South Knox
The Vincennes eighth-grade girls IBA team finished 3-0 to capture the championship at the South Knox Shootout this weekend.
The Lady Alices topped South Knox, 40-35; downed Loogootee, 37-28; and defeated South Knox again, 37-34.
Scoring for Vincennes in the tournament were Chloe Cardinal with 44 points, Dani Kroeger 41, Gracie Hartley 17, McKinsie Halter five, Emma Connor four and Jaclyn Sutton three.
7th Lady Warriors take runner-up
North Knox’s seventh-grade girls IBA team placed second in the South Knox Shootout over the weekend.
The Warriors defeated South Knox 43-13, and lost to Vincennes, 33-26, in pool play. In the tournament, North Knox downed Washington, 30-22, and fell to Vincennes in the title game, 33-26.
Scoring for the Warriors were Emma Saucerman with 41 points, Reegan Hammelman 25, Ava Williams 19, Shelby Shaw 17, Layna LeRoy 10, Emma Elkins eight and Makay Burress five.
Vincennes 6th girls 1-2 at South Knox
The Vincennes sixth-grade girls IBA team finished 1-2 at the South Knox Shootout over the weekend.
The Lady Alices defeated the host Spartans, 26-14, and lost to Washington twice, 38-19 and 26-15.
Scoring in the tournament for Vincennes were Mattye Meadows with 22 points, Courtney Deffendoll 17, Lola Farrar seven, Macy Sexton six, Hannah Edwards four, McKenna Henderson three and Aubrey Bottoms one.
5th Alices go 3-5at tournaments
The Vincennes fifth grade IBA boys sent teams to two different tournaments over the weekend and combined to go 3-5.
The Vincennes Green participated in the Jasper Hoopin’ It Up Tournament and finished runner-up at 3-2. The Green fell to Gibson Southern, 46-23, and beat Corydon, 35-26, in pool games. In the tournament, the Green defeated Forest Park, 35-26; Gibson Southern, 25-16; and fell in the championship game to Washington, 27-24.
Scoring for the Green were Joel Sanders with 38 points, Joshua Clegg 25, Will Hambrick 22, Terrance Travis 21, Brady Kirwer 18, Jaden McCarter 11, Luke Lindsey 10 and A.J. Bilskie two.
The Vincennes White played in the Charger Shootout at Pike Central. They were 0-3, dropping contests to Southridge, 32-14; Gibson Southern Gold, 22-13; and Jasper, 41-24.
Scoring for the White were Fisher Lemon with 22 points, Luke Newman 15, Lemont Butler 10, Bilskie four, Lance Potter three, and Aven Saucerman and Maddox Bahr two.
This concludes the IBA season for the Vincennes Green and White.
Vincennes 5th girls nab second place
The Vincennes fifth-grade girls narrowly dropped the title game and finished 3-1 in the South Knox Shootout over the weekend.
The Lady Alices took out South Knox, 19-10 and 22-13, and downed Linton 27-23, before falling to the Miners in the championship, 25-23.
Kahre McCrary led Vincennes with 50 points, Brooklyn Tredway had 15, Addison Connor 14, Tiah Riggs 10 and Kate Jones two.
4th Lady Aliceshave 2-1 weekend
The Vincennes fourth-grade IBA girls basketball team went 2-1 in the South Knox Shootout over the weekend.
The Lady Alices dropped South Knox, 16-13, and popped Washington Catholic, 26-8, before being defeated by Washington, 31-3.
Scoring for Vincennes were Kiaya Farrar 16 points, Mackenzie Doerner 12, Grace Archer 11 and Javelin James, Lucy Weisenberger and Maddy Mitchell two.
Vincennes grapplers 36th at state meet
INDIANAPOLIS — The Vincennes Grapplers wrapped up their season this weekend by taking 36th out of 169 clubs in the Indiana State Wrestling Association’s Folkstyle State Finals at Warren Central High School.
Top finishers for the Grapplers were Memphis McCrary, 65 pounds, Bantam Class, fourth place; Cadon Deffendoll, 170 pounds, Cadet, fifth place; Phoenix McCrary 100 pounds, Novice, sixth place; and Carson Sanders, 80 pounds, Intermediate, eighth place.
Twenty-two wrestlers competed for the Vincennes Grapplers with more than 2,200 participants at the event.
