University of Memphis Athletics – Tigers travel to Florida for AAC Men’s Golf Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – The University of Memphis men’s golf team will be among 10 American Athletic Conference teams competing this weekend for an automatic berth in the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship.
 
The Tigers will participate in the three-day 2018 AAC Men’s Golf Championship presented by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater starting Sunday at the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla. The champion earns the league’s automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
 
Memphis has posted four top four finishes in 2017-18, including a fourth-place showing at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate April 10 in Nashville. Bradley Bawden leads the Tigers with five top 20 finishes and Rodi Vlasveld‘s 73.1 scoring averages leads the team.
 
Bawden, Vlasveld, Borja Martin, Chase Harris and Nick Giles will compete for the Tigers, who are coming off a strong final round at the Old Waverly Collegiate April 17. The Tigers fired a 2-under 286 and jumped four spots to finish ninth in a field that included 10th-ranked LSU and No. 21 USF.
 
Harris put together a solid mid-spring stretch. At The Cleveland Palmetto March 5-6, he led the team with an even-par 210 to finish seventh, highlighted by a second-round 3-under 67. At the Ryman Intercollegiate April 9-10, he finished at 3-under 210, highlighted by a second-round 3-under 68. He finished third overall.
 
USF, the nation’s 21st-ranked team, is the top seed. The Bulls have won the past three AAC Men’s titles, including last year’s on the Copperhead Course. USF won last year’s Championship by 15 strokes. USF has four tournament wins this season and is led by Claudio Correa, ranked 32nd nationally.
 
All three days of the Championship can be followed via Golfstat.com, while the final round of the Championship will be carried on the American Digital Network beginning at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
